YFC is not the enemy

To the editor:

I am happy to see the ads for Youth for Christ each week. Micah and Kya Cramer and the ministry of YFC are impacting kids’ lives in a very positive way. That’s something the entire community should enthusiastically support. But there has been opposition, in some cases quite angry and strident. It seems to me that at least some of that opposition is based on a misunderstanding.

Some people in the community were apparently offended when Micah said that YFC was being attacked by “the enemy.” Until my retirement at the end of December I was pastor of Northport Covenant Church, which is where that comment was made. I believe I can shed some light on what Christians mean when they refer to “the enemy.” Ephesians Chapter 6 is one of the clearest passages in the Bible regarding spiritual warfare. In verse 12 of that chapter Apostle Paul writes, “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the authorities, the powers, and the forces of evil in the spiritual realm.”
