The Leland planning commission announced last week a rescheduled date and time, now set for Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. at Northport Performing Arts Center, to review the application of a special land use permit for a Youth for Christ (YFC) program club center.
The meeting comes after the planning commission held a public hearing regarding the application last month, where dozens of community members shared their views on the YFC organization and its place in the Leland area. The previous public hearing had to be rescheduled due to attendance at the initial Dec. 3 meeting exceeding room capacity at Leland Township Library’s Munnecke room.
At the public hearing held on Jan. 7, then planning commission chair, Ross Satterwhite, also made the announcement of his resignation. Satterwhite’s term was set to expire in 2028, but he cited personal responsibilities and family obligations in the coming year as his reason for stepping down. The Leland planning commission is scheduled to meet on Feb. 11 to elect a new chairperson and to amend planning commission bylaws to five members instead of seven, so a new chairman will likely be set in place before the Feb. 18 YFC special land use permit application meeting.
