The Indians also loved maple sugar, and the first white men were amazed to see how much maple sugar they could consume at one time, not becoming ill from the sweetness of it.
Because of their migratory life style, they were aware of the chances of dying of starvation, especially in the winter months if they were snowed in and could not provide game for their sustenance.
