Kindness Day last year, observed on Nov. 14, is what inspired meaningful action throughout St. Mary School as fourth-grade students spent time at school learning about, practicing, and promoting kindness in tangible ways.

As part of the week’s activities, students create colorful posters and write affirmations on post-it notes, sharing messages of encouragement by placing them on lockers throughout the school. This initiative aimed to ensure every student feels seen, valued, and supported. “During one of the weeks, our school was enriched by a visit from Mr. Peace, who spoke with students about the true meaning of kindness and the powerful, lasting impact compassionate actions can have on individuals and communities.”

Motivated by these experiences, the fourth graders expressed a strong desire to continue spreading kindness beyond Kindness Day. After meeting with school administration, the St. Mary’s Saint Carlo Acutis Kindness Crew was officially formed and guided and supported by fourth grade teacher, Julie Gawrysiak. The club includes students in grades second through fifth and is designed to be fully student-led by the fourth graders.
