To the editor:
Two US citizens were recently shot to death by Federal ICE/ Border Patrol agents. As a violent crimes prosecutor in a major metropolitan area, I tried 30 murder cases and many more violent crimes including sexual assaults. I worked with hundreds of police officers and chaired an FBI committee investigating DNA cold case homicides. I can say with a great deal of confidence that not one of those hundreds of law enforcement officers would have shot the victims, Good or Pretti. I participated in the review of several officer involved shootings. I handled a number cases where the defendant claimed self defense. The shootings of Good and Pretti are at best colorable self defense cases.
The claim of immunity has been bandied about by VP Vance and others. Vance, being a lawyer, presumably knows better. There is no immunity for murder or any other crime for that matter, Real, properly trained police officers would never act like this.
