‘Religious discrimination’

To the editor:

Following speedy approval by the Leland Township Planning Commission, a large residential parcel was just re-zoned to expand Leland’s arts district. This might be great, but it surely will add to congestion, noise, and parking demand ---likely with negative effects for nearby neighbors.

On the other hand, the Youth for Christ club is permitted in its proposed location by current Township zoning under special use. If the application was for a knitting or a coffee club, instead of a faith-based club, would there be so much hand-wringing? I think we know the answer.
