Leelanau County will have a new animal control officer effective June 15.
The county Board of Commissioners, part of its consent agenda Tuesday night, voted unanimously to allow the Sheriff’s Office to hire a new animal control officer to fill this position.
Eric VanThomme, currently a county corrections officer at the law enforcement center, will join current animal control officer Wayne Kalchik, who is stepping down at the end of the summer.
