After 25 years of service, Department of Public Works Superintendent John Friend has announced his retirement from the Village of Empire effective April 3, 2026.
In a resignation letter addressed to the Village Council and Administration, Friend wrote, “Serving the community has been a privilege, and I am proud of the work accomplished during my tenure.”
Friend later added, “I’m done. I’m just tired. There is no political reason, I’ve been planning it for years.”
