Snow covered sidewalks and questions about safety dominated discussion at the Village of Empire earlier this month.
Several residents urged council members to prioritize pedestrian access especially along M-22 and M-72.
“Michigan law requires municipalities to protect health and safety,” Empire resident Steve Stepanek said during public comment. “I think the village council was remiss in their fiduciary responsibility to provide for that safety. The snow removal policy doesn’t work. What I’ve heard is a lot of excuses.”
