Christian service project ‘Blankets of Hope’

Christian service project ‘Blankets of Hope’
St. Mary School students in grades 7 through 12 gathered in the church with Fr. Jim Siler as more than 100 handmade blankets — created during the annual Blankets of Hope outreach event — are displayed before being distributed to those in need.

St. Mary students in grades 7 through 12 along with dedicated parish and community volunteers recently participated in the annual Christian service projects, Blankets of Hope and Little Dresses for Africa.

Founded in 1994 by St. Mary parishioners, Jozell Rexroat and Shirley Garthe, Blankets of Hope has become a longstanding parish tradition, faithfully continuing its mission of service for more than 30 years.

On February 16 and 17, the St. Mary Church Social Hall was transformed into a bustling sewing center. Organized stations for measuring, cutting, pinning, turning, ironing, and sewing filled the space as volunteers guided students step-bystep through the blanket-making process. The collaborative effort provided hands on learning while reinforcing the values of service, stewardship, and global awareness.
