The Leland Township board authorized the planning commission chairperson at a special meeting on Feb. 27 to engage services of a planning expert, which may include an attorney, at a cost not to exceed $2,000.
According to the minutes from the special meeting, the township board is not involved in the planning commission decision making. However, MCL (Michigan Compiled Law) does require board approval for the funding of planning expert services, which was requested by the planning commission chairperson.
Trustee Steve Scales questioned whether there would be enough time for an opinion to be rendered and reviewed. The planning commission will have to determine whether a time stipulation is necessary.
