Congratulations to all of the organizers and volunteers for a very successful Northport Winter Carnival this past Saturday. After a surge in the temperature to almost 50 degrees the day before, winter swooped back in overnight and the good amount of snow and ice before the warm-up held on as the day was perfect for all of the activities. An estimated 700 people attended the event.

There were lots of awards to go around. Congratulations to the Bearded Clams winning Broomball team members Matt Dignan, Trevor Woerfel, Kory Chapelle, Kurt Chapelle, Cramer Gormely, Garret Gormely, and Steve Hoskins. The Milk Jug Curling champions were the Stone Cold Curlers Faye Stoewsand and Tony Alongi.

My favorite contest to “participate” in is, of course, the Chili Cook-Off. Some years, I have entered a chili. Some years, I just participate by voting (and eating). This year’s winners were: Traditional – Northport Public School Middle Schoolers “The Electrolytes”, whose members were James Hoskins, Justin Miller, Tanner Brown, Brisham Dignan and Charlie Hale; White - Erin Potes; Veggie - Claire Baushke; and Wild Game - Josh Rutila.
