Saginaw native Emmy Neighbors has had a viney path, finding her way to the Leelanau Peninsula to grow wine for Boathouse Vineyards in Lake Leelanau.
“I’ve met a lot of other winemakers that have been very helpful in getting to know the curveballs that farming in Michigan throws you,” she said. “I think wine is all about relationships. People buy wine from people that they like and support local wineries.”
Neighbors and her husband recently moved to Northport from San Nez Valley, California, and she grew her first batch at Boathouse during the 2024 season before taking over operations in 2025.
