Northport Winter Carnival brings community together

Northport Winter Carnival brings community together
Youth of all ages competed during the carnival's popular cardboard sled race down Braman Hill.

The Northport Winter Carnival welcomed back hundreds of people at Braman Hill on Saturday for a chilly, funfilled and eventful day, leaving many feeling grateful for the community that came together once again to make it happen.

“It’s a huge crew that puts it together, not only just the planners, but we’ve got tons of volunteers out here and then we’ve got all of our sponsors… It takes a village,” said Northport Community Events member Erin Connolly.

Northport Village Council President Chris McCann had the special role of serving as the new Otter mascot known as “Otto” or “Ottie” at the carnival. The name of the mascot, which was ultimately decided by kids in preschool through fifth grade, was another community-led effort by the nonprofit, Northport Community Events. McCann said although he was unable to attend last year’s carnival, it was great to be back at the beloved event, a tradition that’s been ongoing in the village for so many years now.
