6 to 15 years for drunk driver

A Traverse City man who pleaded no contest to two of several criminal charges in January was sentenced in Circuit Court this week.

Kenneth Marotzke pleaded no contest in January to one count of operating while intoxicated causing death and another of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury. Two other charges of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury and open intoxicants in a vehicle were dropped at the time of sentencing.

Circuit Court Judge Charles Hamlyn sentenced Marotzke Monday to 72 to 180 months with the Michigan Department of Corrections on the first charge. He also was sentenced from 18 to 60 months on the second charge.

These sentences will serve concurrently.

The charges are the result of an accident in which 61-year-old Ronald L. Bellman of Cincinnati was killed shortly before noon Wednesday, Sept. 10 on M-22 near Walters Drive. A passenger in Bellman’s vehicle was also injured.

Marotzke was also ordered to pay $1,599 in fines, court costs, and moneys going to crime victim’s fund.
