A needed water line replacement in the village of Northport, which includes hydrants on Warren Street between Fifth and Sixth streets, is that much closer to being fixed.
Northport Village Council approved an agreement for professional services with Machin Engineering for the Warren Street water main replacement project at a cost not to exceed $19,800 at its regular meeting on Feb. 19.
According to the Northport Village Council Manager report, the village has contemplated this project for several years and is a high priority. The four inch waterline in this area, the report says, is very outdated compared to the current eight inch standard, and is well past its functional life expectancy. Additionally, the water fund has benefited from a recent class action PFAS settlement and has a current cash balance of $356,000 “that is more than sufficient to bear the cost of this project as well as the Nagonaba water leak.”
