Barbershop was the place to socialize

As a child, Judy Egeler was forbidden by her parents to go to Gains barber shop in Leland.

“It was a ‘den of iniquity’,” she said. “Not a proper place for a little girl to go.”

But go she did, defying her parents orders by walking into the shop on River Street, now occupied by Verterra Winery.
