The Suttons Bay Norsemen Robotics team (including students from Suttons Bay and Northport schools) had an exciting showing at the Traverse City District Competition this past weekend at T-C West High School.

The competition consisted of 76 randomized qualification matches, during which each team played as an “alliance” with two others and against three opposing robots.

These qualification matches then determined each team’s rank out of the 40 teams present. As qualification matches were played over Friday and Saturday morning, the Norsemen attained an impressive 7-5 overall record.

The team stood out as a strong offensive contributor, exemplified in their Offensive Power Ranking of 73.1, the fifth highest at the competition.

At the conclusion of qualifications, the Norsemen ranked No. 11.

Moving into playoffs, they were selected by the 5th-Seeded alliance captain, the Traverse City Central Raptors, to join their Playoff Alliance. Together, the Raptors and Norsemen selected the SCA Constellations, from Wixom MI, as the third Alliance member. After winning 3 of 5 playoff matches, the teams finished 3rd overall in the competition.

Due to the Norsemen strong performance at their two District events, Suttons Bay advanced to the Playoffs in each, and received the quality award at districts. The Norsemen are strong contenders to be eligible for the State Championship at Saginaw Valley State University next month.

Norsemen Robotics would like to extend their gratitude to all sponsors and supporters.
