LEELANAU HISTORY

5 YEARS AGO March 25, 2021

Glen Arbor Zoning Administrator Tim Cypher may have thrown gasoline on a brightly smoldering fire centering around the township board’s decision to rush through a controversial rezoning approval last month before fulfilling FOIA requests from several residents and the Enterprise. What seemingly began as a project to restore the historic Old Mill property in Glen Arbor, has turned into a fiasco over zoning, fears of massive development and a group’s desire to “maintain the small-town charm” all for the love of Glen Arbor. *** The new owner of Sugar Loaf Resort issued a news release late last week indicating pre-demolition work at the property has been completed with demolition of the hotel expected to occur “later this year.” There was no sign of any activity at Sugar Loaf this week and little evidence anything new has

occurred there for many months.
