Focus forward

To the editor:

A sincere thank you to our Leelanau County Road Commission snow plow drivers and support staff. I was informed that the 25 county snow plows drove over 14,000 miles during the five day period (Saturday to Wednesday) around the 50-hour Blizzard of March 2026 as they maintained and cleared the 24 routes they maintain over 598 miles of county roads and 105 miles of state roads under contract with MDOT.

Thank you also to the citizens who stayed off the roads and pitched in when plows became stuck. Your efforts to clear driveways and shoulders allowed the county crews to keep the rights-of-way open for emergency services.
