Glen Lake senior Kylan Gallagher committed to Northern Michigan University for studies and to play football come the fall.
Gallagher is busy doing odd jobs, hitting the weight room, and finishing out high school before he makes his trip north to Marquette for the Wildcats.
“It was pretty clear for me just because of what I like to do outside of football. I like to hunt; I like to fish, and the U.P. is perfect for that. It was between NMU and a couple of other schools. The other ones are smaller. I like the coaches a lot, but NMU just seemed like a better place and a better fit for me.”
Gallagher has been focused on the weight room to try to catch up on the learning and physical curve at the next level.
“I’ve put probably 20 pounds of good muscle on in a couple of months, so that’s what I’ve been working on. I mean, slow feet don’t eat. So working on my footwork and all that,” Gallagher said.
The senior hopes to gain playing time at the defensive end position, and with a little more size, he may be able to get there.
Gallagher will compete in the GLIAC, which has claimed the D2 national championship year in and year out.
“Every little kid has some aspirations of college sports, but I didn’t think it was going to happen last year and then this year it just kind of happened and I’m going with it,” Gallagher said.
Gallagher aspires to become an electrician, which is another reason he chose NMU.
Gallagher was an anchor for the Lakers defense and helped lead the Lakers to a regional championship appearance.
