ChildShare pilot program takes shape

Funds collected for early childhood programing could help families to pay for childcare as early as next fall.

Michelle Klein, RN, MA and director of personal health, for the Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department (BLDHD) appeared before county commissioners recently to provide an update on the program, made possible through the county’s extra-voted millage.

The funds are generated by a 0.253mill property tax to fund early childhood development services from 2020 through 2024. In 2024, voters approved renewal of the millage at a rate of 0.253 mills for an additional five years, from 2025 through 2029.
