The following news story and photos were taken from Kathleen Firestone’s book, “Suttons Bay, Peshawbestown and Bingham Shores of Grand Traverse Bay.”

It was a different shoreline than it had been when Cassimere Dearwood arrived in 1854, the same year as Harry Sutton. Now, many boats were going up and down Grand Traverse Bay, and dock owners along the way welcomed them.

Dearwood died March 18, 1901. His wife, Harriet spend some time in Wayne County, Michigan, and she died there in May 1915. The Dearwoods had seen nearly 50 years of settlers and boats coming and going on the east side of the Leelanau Peninsula.
