‘Honest representation’

To the editor:

In 2015, Jack Bergman was plucked from retirement in Louisiana by the Koch brothers and their American for Prosperity PAC not because of his willingness to help citizens of Michigan’s 1st District, but because his military Reserves background would help him win. Born and raised in Minnesota, he never lived in Michigan, although he listed a storage shed as his principal residence in 2016. In 2018, Bergman claimed that a seasonal cottage on an unplowed road in Watersmeet was his principal residence, even though all his mail was forwarded to Louisiana. Among his achievements was supporting Trump’s coup to overturn the 2020 election, not having a town hall since 2017, voting against every environmental and social justice bill, and supporting Trump’s pardoning of the Jan. 6 insurrectionists, as well as supporting pardons for Trump’s buddies in jail for fraud and grand theft. This year, he accepted a “donation” of $289,000 from a California convicted criminal, then pressured Trump to pardon the guy. Can’t get more crooked than that, I’m afraid.

“Louisiana Jack”, soon to be 80, needs to step aside and let Callie Barr try her hand at honest representation, because we sure don’t have that now.
