Northport School gets lunar recognition
The Northport Public School science club received a “boarding pass" for NASA's Artemis II moon mission currently underway. An SD card containing the two millionplus names was lodged in a moon mascot plush named "Rise" that will act as a zero gravity indicator for the Artemis II crew.

NASA’s Artemis II Moon Mission underway

Northport Public School’s science club name officially reached space this month, receiving lunar recognition amid the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Artemis II Moon Mission that launched on April 1.

Leading up to the mission launch, NASA invited the public to submit names that the spacecraft would carry via a SD card as it travels to the moon, and Northport was one of two millionplus registrations thanks to science club teacher Karen Trolenberg. The science club was issued a “boarding pass” that enabled them and other registrants to follow along online and learn about the space program as a virtual guest. The SD card containing millions of names was lodged in a moon mascot plush named “Rise” that will act as a zero gravity indicator for the crew.
