A lot on the west end of Glen Arbor’s main corridor was recently cleared as part of plans for Glen Arbor Construction’s (GAC) new shop and office.
“Our team is excited to have a bit more space to work comfortably and meet with clients,” Glen Arbor Construction operations manager Kailey Dykstra said.
The 0.38 acre lot sits at 6613 W. Western Ave, next to Boonedocks and across from Ruth Conklin Gallery.
The new building will include a first floor workshop, roughly three offices, and a conference room. A second level will provide storage and space for future office expansion. The company plans to complete construction by early 2027 and will fully relocate from its current South Ray Street location in Glen Arbor.
The sudden clearing of trees from the lot was shocking to some neighboring businesses. One nearby business owner initially described the sight as “tragic.”
Dykstra said the tree removal was necessary for the project’s drain field, retention area, driveway and parking.
“The tree roots could either damage the foundation or, if cut, kill the trees,” she said.
Glen Arbor Construction wants to incorporate landscaping to “help maintain and enhance the beauty of the area.”
The parcel is currently owned by JMB Management Trust and will be leased by GAC rather than ownership transfer.
Dykstra said the property owner “truly cares about preserving and enhancing the community’s character.”
“Our team is excited about the opportunity to put down roots with a new space and establish a stronger local presence in Glen Arbor,” she said.
