Lake Leelanau waterfront property owners in six Leelanau County townships could end up footing the bill to control an infestation of Eurasian Watermilfoil (EWM) in the lake. The private Lake Leelanau Lake Association this week asked the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners to consider adopting a resolution to establish an independent Lake Leelanau Preservation Board that could set up a special assessment district to raise funds and manage an EWM control effort. *** Leelanau Township planners refused to attach themselves to a controversial zoning ordinance passed on March 17 by the Township Board. It would place a 180-day moratorium on accepting applications for RV parks and campgrounds — an ordinance many say was specifically created to stop development by Timber Shores RV park and campground. While Zoning Administrator Steve Patmore told the board and a group of at least 93 participants streaming in via Zoom the meeting had nothing to do with Timber Shores, nobody, including the planning members seemed to believe him.
