The topic of immigration in America and what the data shows from a Michigan lens was at the center of a community talk held at the Old Art Building on April 9.
Leland resident Bartlomiej (Bart) Skorupa, an immigrant social entrepreneur, is the cofounder of Mobile Pathways, a technology nonprofit that uses mobile phone technology, data, and artificial intelligence (AI) to help immigrants in court navigate the legal immigration process. Skorupa shared data-driven insights on what immigration looks like today as it’s been one of the most talked-about and divisive issues in America, especially with border and immigration being a top priority under the Trump administration.
Skorupa said during his presentation that Mobile Pathways is utilized by over 200 organizations and attorneys about 8,000 times a day, processing up to 300 million pieces of information at a time about what’s happening with immigration. He explained how this has led Mobile Pathways to start sharing data trends regarding immigration via their website, which has been information that local, national, and global media has picked up on in the last year. Mobile Pathways brings to the forefront immigration court data and the latest outcomes for immigrants in court, highlighting statistics such as the 3,269,048 cases in the immigration court backlog, or the fact that 577,877 individuals were ordered removed by immigration judges in 2025.
