To the editor:
On April first, I attended a pre-primary forum for Michigan District 1 House candidates. All candidates were invited. Notably, Jack Bergman and Carrie Barr, chose not to attend.
The four candidates responded to questions posed by the moderator. Addressing issues like health care, housing, and money in politics, their replies were civil and thoughtful. No arguing, no debate. The audience was able to assess their grasp of the issues, proposed approaches and solutions, and observe their body language. We do not know how the two absent candidates would compare. For me, the strength of Kyle Blomquist’s responses stood out. His platform, clearly represented on his website, checks all my boxes. He showed up. He will get my vote on August 4th.
