Kids deserve ‘best start’

To the editor:

As most folks know, the Leelanau Children’s Center is a gem in our community and has been for 50 years and multiple generations. I have been involved there for over 3 decades in a large variety of roles: teacher, director, parent, board member and currently as a volunteer and grant writer. In fact, I help alongside a former student of mine in her classroom! Early Childhood Development has been a lifelong passion of mine and I feel incredibly fortunate to be a part of such an exemplary place and program.

While the work and play has remained high quality and vital on a daily basis, funding has been a challenge. Back in the 90’s we had a generous benefactor named Sally Reahard whose support bolstered LCC and allowed for growth and continuity of care. Now we have created an Endowment fund to help bridge the gap between the cost of care and family tuition. Investments like these are important to sustain this vital work in our area.
