Norse looking to bounce back
Sutton Bay softball is steadily growing as the Norse has 16 players this season compared to just nine in 2025.
“We are obviously a lot better than last year. We know the game more and we are excited.
“It helps too with more players because now everybody’s pushing each other,” Suttons Bay coach Gary Galla said.
Suttons Bay has three seniors: Hannah Gordon, Eli Marshall and Ella Ingwerson.
“Being senior is a big role for the team. I feel like we’ve worked so hard to be in this position and I’m looking forward to helping our teammates along the way. Makes me want to stay in the field,” Suttons Bay senior Ella Ingwerson said. “I feel like with more people on the team, it’s a lot more of an energy boost. We have a lot more girls cheering versus last year ... This is my community and it feels great.”
Suttons Bay fell to Mesick Thursday 13-0, 23-13 as Brisa Ramirez had the only hit on the night.
The Norse lost in game two, 23-13, as Hannah Gordon had two hits and two runs; Ramirez 2H; Ella Ingwerson 2B, 4R; Marlen Guzman 2B, 3 RBI.
At Saturday’s Mesick tournament, Suttons Bay fell to Bear Lake 4-7 and Manton 21-11.
In game one, Gordon had two hits including a triple and 4 RBI’s. Ingwerson had two hits and scored three runs. Agnes Marshal scored two runs and stole two bases. Ramirez had two RBI’s.
Stags and Lakers split series
Kingsley softball dominated the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader (14-6), but Glen Lake responded with a close win in game two (3-2).
Riding their momentum from the start, the Stags (14-8) opened the day with a three-run first inning and never looked back. Glen Lake (6-5-1) stayed competitive throughout, but the Stags built an 11-3 lead by the fifth inning.
Laker junior Laila Shimek went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored to lead Glen Lake. Senior Grace Noonan finished 3-for-3 with a double but did not record any RBIs or runs.
However, in game two, the Lakers got their payback. Glen Lake sophomore Delanie Dembowske shook off the loss from game one and threw five hard-fought innings.
“I’m really proud of how the girls rallied tonight and made adjustments between games. They came out ready to play defense, and Delanie especially stepped up on the mound and threw a great game,” Glen Lake coach Lauryn Pleva said. “Being able to stay comfortable and composed in high-pressure situations is a great skill for us to be developing this time of year, and it will serve us well when we start the postseason.”
Dembowske had six strikeouts and nine hits with only one walk in the win.
Continuing their rebound, this time it was the Lakers turn to get out to a fast start as Glen Lake scored three runs in the first inning off multiple singles and smart base running.
The drama heightened in the sixth inning, as the Stags scored to make it 3-2 off an error. Dembowske got the last batter to pop up, earning the win for her team.
Glen Lake first baseman Quinn O’Hearn went 3-3 with a double, while Emily Bailey also had an RBI and scored herself.
Eagles grounded by Bears
Lake Leelanau St. Mary softball fell to Buckley Thursday 13-3, 14-2.
