Leland forward Lilly Connor scored two goals as the Comets defeated Glen Lake during a first meeting this season. The Lakers defense disrupted Leland’s normally productive attack. Glen Lake goalkeeper Andi Forton was the standout for the match, making 15 saves, including a highlight reel tip over the bar towards the end of the game.

Lakers, Hart tie

A cool, misty evening for a hard-fought draw between Glen Lake and Hart Friday (1-1).

With 10 minutes to go in the first half, freshman Peyton Randolph made a hurry-up throw-in on the right side that unleashed freshman Brook Cooper, who volleyed a bouncing ball past the onrushing Hart keeper.

Hart finally found an equalizer 34 minutes into the second half.

The Lakers showed tough play in all phases of the game, led by midfielders Randolph and Abigail Steffke, and defenders Nora Ciolek and Taylor Randolph.

Norse falls to Glads; def Lakers

Traverse City St. Francis defeated Suttons Bay 4-0.

Glen Lake goalkeeper Andi Forton had 15 saves.

The Norse had a solid week with two quality wins over Glen Lake Wednesday (2-0) and Bloomfield Hills Academy of the Sacred Heart (3-0).

Suttons Bay girls soccer (4-30) fell to Traverse City St. Francis Tuesday, 4-0.

A quick first-half surge rocketed Suttons Bay to a 2-1 win over Glen Lake (4-1) Wednesday.

Suttons Bay opened the scoring with a goal from Clarice Bardenhagen, followed shortly by Madelyn Hamilton hitting the back of the net.

Suttons Bay carried the lead into halftime, and neither side found the net in a more physical second half as Glen Lake pushed for an equalizer.

Laker Coach Eric Olsen credited his team’s defensive effort for keeping the match close after the early goals from the Norsemen.

Suttons Bay assistant coach Emily Marbury said her team settled in after the opening stretch and found more consistency through midfield play.

“We were really focusing on connecting passes in the middle,” Marbury said. “Then finding the wide pass that was working really well, especially in the second half. It was the difference maker.”

Suttons Bay will host The Academy of the Sacred Heart on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Glen Lake will host Hart High School Thursday at 5 p.m.
