Community members, including elementary students from Northport Public School, gathered at Marina Park on Friday for the village’s annual Arbor Day festivities and tree planting ceremony.

Bob Newell, Northport Village Council planning commission and tree committee member, said they were lucky to have another successful Arbor Day with clear skies and no rain in sight.

Many of the kids that attended previous Arbor Day celebrations were present, with Newell adding that returnees of the program, like Northport resident Bob Stoewsand, also read Arbor Day related poetry. In addition, Department of Public Works (DPW) employee Dave Tompkins, read a poem at the event. Northport planning commission chair Jane Gale read the Arbor Day proclamation, and Northport school students in grades K-1 assisted Newell with the planting of a yellow birch tree, a species native to the area.
