Reporter reflects on year of change

As of this week, I’ve been living here a full year- yay! It also marks a full year of working for our lovely Leelanau Enterprise. So, I thought I’d be real and take a moment of reflection, and I guess tell the whole county about it.

When I first got up here, everything felt like momentum — new routines, new people, new expectations layered on top of a place I thought I already knew really well. (I moved here from Indianapolis, but have been vacationing or living in the area my whole life). I came into the job probably the most excited and most nervous I’ve ever been.

And it turned out that this past summer and really, through the end of the year held some of the most stressful days I can ever remember having. Working a second job at Inn and Trail Gourmet alongside the Enterprise, after spending a few years out of the writing business meant I had to rebuild a resilience I didn’t realize I had lost. I was lonely, had to work through old patterns of anxiety, fill in industry knowledge gaps as I went, and do it all while still learning how to trust myself in this work.
