With Lake Michigan on the retreat, folks who dealt with the effects of record-breaking water levels in 2020 are starting to assess their responses from higher ground. The situation has improved dramatically at the Leland Harbor, where lake levels have fallen to manageable levels. *** A Leelanau County fruit farmer had completed an orientation process and even cast votes during her first Michigan Cherry Committee meeting only to learn last week that her nomination had been blocked by the state Senate. “I was really excited to serve the cherry industry,” said Emily Miezio of Suttons Bay Township. “It was shocking, disappointing, frustrating — all of those words.”
