Leland boys golf team took home first in a Northwest Conference golf match Monday.
The Comets defeated Glen Lake and Onekama with a sixperson 18-hole score of 345 compared to 352 from Glen Lake and 353 by Onekama.
Glen Lake junior Joel Martin pulled out the 2-stroke win with a 79 over Onekama senior Tyler Hart.
Martin held steady over the first nine trading bogeys (5) and birdies (2). After a rough start on the back nine, Martin settled in on No. 14 for a birdie, then three straight pars to capture the win.
Benzie Central senior Rowan Zickert finished tied for third along with Leland senior Howie Kropp (82).
Leland junior Hayden VanSteenhouse finished fifth overall, while Frankfort’s Cash Rosum and Benzie Central’s David Wenkel finished sixth and seventh, followed by Leland freshman Ryan Connor finished tied for eighth along with Glen Lake sophomore Karter Smith.
Benzie Central finished fourth followed by Frankfort, Suttons Bay, Brethren and Buckley.

3-way tie at TC Country Club (boys golf)
A 3-way tie was the case during a 9-hole Northwest Conference boys golf match at the challenging Traverse City Country Club Wednesday.
Frankfort senior Cash Rosum, Glen Lake senior Brody Switzer, and Leland senior Howie Kropp managed +3 (39) at the Tom Bendelow-designed course (1915).
Rosum was consistent, going bogey, par throughout the match, while Switzer recovered from a double-bogey two-hole stretch to start with a birdie on three, followed by four pars in a row. Kropp had five bogeys and four pars to find himself tied for the lead.
The Lakers won the team event to notch their second conference win of the season, beating Leland by 4 strokes, 165-169.
“Our team has a ton of talent and even more potential. With 7–8 guys capable of going low on any given day, it creates a competitive environment that pushes everyone to be better. I love seeing different players step up and help get the job done,” Glen Lake golf coach Peyton McDonough said.

Top-10: Jayden Carver (Frankfort), David Wenkel (Benzie), Oscar Ciolek (Glen Lake) tied for fourth with a score of 40, while Joel Martin (Glen Lake), Tyler Hart ( Onekama), Hayden VanSteenhouse (Leland), and Rowan Zickert (Benzie) finished with a score of 41 in the close contest.

Glen Lake held off Onekama and Leland for a Northwest Conference win Wednesday at Wolf River Golf Park..
Glen Lake sophomore took top honors with a three-shot lead, nine-hole score of 37.
