To the editor:
“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth a war, is much worse.” Iran declared war on America in 1979 by invading sovereign US territory - our Tehran embassy grounds abducting 52 Americans while hauling down Old Glory. Congress can formalize this 47-year old belligerent status by DECLARING war any time they choose. Why don’t they? Trump is empowered to MAKE war in Article II of the Constitution, incidentally.
“A war to protect other human beings against tyrannical injustice; a war to give victory to their own ideas of right and good, and which is their own war, carried on for an honest purpose by their free choice…”. America remains a force for decency. Destroying a rogue and brutal regime which murders 35,000 of its people, sows death and chaos across the globe, seeks nuclear weapons, whose Orwellian “morality police” throw acid in girls’ faces, hang innocents from cranes, and condemn millions of women and girls to a 7th century mindset - life as property - is a good and moral thing.
