According to National Centers for Environmental Information, the median last spring frost in the Grand Traverse Area (the closest site available) typically occurs around May 10, and the first fall frost risk begins around October 1, with a high likelihood of a freeze by October 26.

The growing zone, determined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), is set by average minimum winter temperatures and helps you decide what plants will survive the winter months.
