Homeowners monitor from afar

A motion alert pings a cellphone hundreds of miles away from Leelanau County — someone is on the porch.

Within seconds, homeowners can pull up live video footage from a front door camera, watch movement around their property in real time and maybe even get in touch with local law enforcement before anyone nearby even notices something is wrong.

“I want to say, I think Ring doorbells and security cameras are a great idea,” Leelanau Sheriff Mike Borkovich said.
