Suttons Bay native Jordan Brown is entering adulthood by starting his first business, Bay To Bin junk removal services.
Brown, who’s about 19 years old, is learning to be an entrepreneur from the start and is poised for success.
Brown, who was born and raised in Suttons Bay, is ready to remove anything a customer needs.
“Bay To Bin is a junk removal company, including garage cleanouts, furniture removal, random piles, and simply anything that needs to be gone,” Brown said. “I’ve always really liked working with my hands and doing stuff in the outdoors, so I kind of just saw that there was a need for the service around here and started it up.”
Bay To Bin believes that waste management should be easy, affordable and environmentally responsible.
Last year, Brown did it as a side hustle, but this summer, he is diving in headfirst.
“It is a weird feeling. This is exciting, but it makes me nervous. I know there’s more to come,” Brown said. “I do have big, big goals for this business. I want to become the most reliable scrap mobile service in the county. I want to eventually branch out into more stuff like dumpster rentals and get a crew going. I have big plans, but right now I’m just making do with what I got. I got a pickup truck. I fill it up, take it to the dump.”
Brown has been busy saving up for his pickup truck over the past year, moving on from renting U-Haul’s among other vehicles.
“Now I have my own pickup truck. I’ve had a bunch of help from my dad. I cannot stress that enough. He’s the best mechanic I know. He fixed that truck up, helped me build the wood sidewalls, helped me with the business side of things and more,” Brown said. “I pay for insurance, and I set money aside for taxes. At first, it was the physical work, but now it’s the business side, including scheduling, pricing, insurance, taxes. There’s a lot I have to take into consideration for pricing.”
Recently, Brown has been taking care of scrap wood the most, but recent flooding has caused damage in people’s basements, and that is when Brown comes to help.
“I really want to push myself, stay busy. I want to work 5-6 days a week if I can, and fully book my schedule. I just want to get out there, get my name out there, show people that I’m trustworthy and reliable, and I can do a good service for them,” Brown said.
