April marked the 10-year anniversary of the Leelanau County Cancer Foundation operating as a nonprofit, and after more than a decade of helping families in the community touched by cancer, has much to celebrate.
The nonprofit officially organized in April 2016 and its operation is made possible through the efforts of volunteers, which includes its eight-member board of directors.
Since its inception, the foundation has given over half a million dollars to over 180 families and individuals in Leelanau County coping with cancer. In 2025, the foundation awarded $96,000 to approximately 82 families, allowing people to focus on their healing and helping to alleviate some of the financial burden that comes with a cancer diagnosis.
