A possible millage for the Mill Pond dam in Northport was part of a focused discussion during the Northport Village Council’s work session last week.

The issue of whether the Mill Pond should be replaced or removed altogether has been a controversial one amongst community members, especially in recent years with calls for rewilding and restoring the natural resource.

Jered Ottenwess, Northport Village manager, began the discussion of a millage at the meeting last Thursday, and made clear that the village has the authority to levy a millage for the purpose of replacing the Mill Pond dam, which would be considered a public improvement.
