Ready or not… here it comes

How can it be Memorial Day when we haven’t even had spring yet? I was a bit premature when I announced last week that things had warmed up. Whether the weather is warm or not, activities in the area are definitely warming up. Leelanau Township is holding a special Memorial Day program celebrating the country’s 250th anniversary. It will be at the Township cemetery in Northport, starting at 10:30 a.m. It will again be preceded by the wonderful progressive playing of taps through the village. In case of rain, the program will be held in the Northport School auditorium.

This Saturday is the opening reception of the Photo Exhibit at the Northport Arts Association (NAA) from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit runs through June 14, and is open Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. Northport Cars in the Park, Leelanau County’s longest running car show, is this Saturday starting at 10 a.m., with prizes announced at 3 p.m.

The Omena Presbyterian Church opens for the season this Sunday. Rev. Dr. Peter Moore will be preaching, and Patrick Kuhl will be on the organ. The special music will be provided by Mary Robertson, accompanied by Gary Lamberg on mandolin and Dan Lisuk on guitar. Everyone is invited to attend worship from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
