Students from schools throughout Leelanau County are often featured in the local newspaper for their achievements, and one employee at Leland Public School makes a point to highlight their noted successes found in these publications whenever possible.

Geri Valentine has been serving as a media specialist/library aide for the last three years at Leland. She works alongside Leland librarian Annie Clark and fellow library aide Emily DeFour, and high school students typically come into the library to work and to log on to their online classes.

Valentine, who has a teaching degree from Michigan State University, works in the position as a part-time employee for a few days a week, and on the other days, she regularly fills in at the Leland school kitchen and recently substituted as an aide in the elementary, as well as in the middle and high school classroom. She worked as an elementary school aide on and off at the school for two years though before she took on the library role.
