Leelanau Community Energy site lease agreement terminated

The Village of Northport will likely begin the process soon of finding other remedies to remove a non-operational wind turbine in town following the termination of a site lease agreement with Leelanau Community Energy (LCE) last week.

The termination of the lease agreement between the Village of Northport and LCE was unanimously approved by the Northport Village Council via a resolution at a regular meeting held on May 21.

According to the resolution, the village first entered into a site lease agreement with LCE in June 2011, for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the wind turbine at the Northport-Leelanau Township Utilities Authority (NLTUA) wastewater treatment facility property. As the tenant, LCE was responsible for maintaining the turbine and associated facilities.
