Leelanau Montessori Public School held its annual Stone Soup event last week, bringing together community members for an afternoon of fun, collaboration, and talent.
Laura Piskor, Leelanau Montessori incoming head of school, said the potluck event originally began several years ago to help with a playground fundraising effort. Since then, it has transformed into a larger community event that typically hosts more than a hundred students, families, and even some alumni.
“The lower elementary students will put on a lot of games earlier in the afternoon, and then the upper elementary students host the talent show — and the primary students, in our toddler environments, they make beautiful art,” Piskor said. “It sort of encourages all of our community not only to be on our campus, but to see all of the really beautiful spots that we have on our land.”
