Across Michigan and the country, more veterans are being targeted by companies and individuals often called “claim sharks” — businesses that charge veterans thousands of dollars to file disability claims that can and should be done for free.
As veterans, we need to look out for one another, and that starts with knowing where to turn for legitimate help.
Every county in Michigan has an accredited County Department of Veterans Affairs office staffed by trained Veteran Service Officers whose job is to help veterans and their families navigate VA benefits at no cost. These offices exist because veterans earned those benefits through service and sacrifice. No veteran should have to hand over a percentage of their compensation or pay outrageous fees just to access what they already earned.
