Frankfort Panthers ready to leave it all on the track

The Frankfort girls track team is ready to leave it all out on the track for one final race of the season.
Panther seniors Sofia Alaimo Schindler, Addison Jarosz, Riley Lavack, and Alice Luther are ranked among the top in the state and are hoping to capture a regional championship.
“I’m imagining everything and running through it in my mind to keep myself calm and confident in our abilities. We know what we can do,” Jarosz said. “We are going to push ourselves and leave it all out on the track and just trust in our abilities and the work that we've put in all season.”
Alaimo Schindler is ready for a senior moment as she competes in the 100 and 200 along with her respective relays.
Alaimo Schindler is ranked second in the 100 and fourth in the 100-meter dash.
“I'm excited to go down one last time  … Usually I have my routine and have my goals set, and I would like to place higher than last year. When it comes to the opens, there’s a lot of pressure, and I’ve been getting used to it this season in other big races. I’m excited for that opportunity and running to my full potential,” Schindler said. “Before (our relay teams race) we get together and talk to each other through the race, and then we have a special baton golden and do little Xs on our hands.”

Zielinski leads D1 competition

Traverse City Central junior Lorelai Zielinski is going into the state championships as one of the best in the state, regardless of division, ranked first in shot put and discus with throws of 52’6 "and 168’5" when she competes at the MHSAA D1 State Championships at Rockford Saturday.
“I’m just trying to get into the mental state of getting ready to compete and compete against myself and I am my own competition,” Zielinski said. “I want to win another state title and be undefeated again.”
The junior is going for her second straight shot put and discus state championship.
Annika Powis is ranked eighth in the 100-hurdles for the Trojans with a time of 14.74. The Traverse City West 4x800-relay team of Abby Veit, Bailey Wenzlick, Tessa Mascari and Reese Smith is currently ranked seventh.

Glads, Huskies ready to compete in D3

Multiple area teams are competing in the MHSAA D3 track state championships Saturday in Kent City.
Traverse St. Francis has been focusing on fine-tuning a few things and switching relays around during the strategic race.
Gladiator senior sprinter Helen Biggar is ready to compete in the 100, 100, and a couple of relays to compete for a chance at a state championship.
“I'm just really excited to be able to run, obviously, it's a really big meat, so the nerves are all over the place, but I'm just really excited to be able to run against really fast people, and I'm excited for my teammates also to be able to run and show our talent,” Biggar said. “(About relays) we've been working on our steps, and we haven't been able to run them a bunch this season, but I'm confident that we can perform well and place high in those relays.”
Before each race, Biggar says a couple of prayers “that helps calm my nerves a lot.”
Traverse City St. Francis boys will be led by Adam David, who's ready to compete in the 4x100, 4x200, along with the 100 and 200-meter sprints.
“I'm really excited, and it’ll be some good competition. I'm really excited my relay made it, which is awesome,” David said. “Every meet, I go in hoping to PR, hoping to win. My mindset stays the same no matter what.”
Area teams stay in the Big Rapids area the day before the race.
Benzie Central junior Parker Pritchett is ready to throw his best in the boys shot put and discus competitions.
Pritchett is ranked third in both shot put and discus and is hoping to take gold.
“I want to come into the day with good energy and focus. If I have good technique coming to the throw, remember all my cues, pop out a big one, and I’ll take it home. I’m making sure I have all my focal points, that my feet are right, and that my hips are right. Upper body's right, everything's moving together,” Pritchett said.
