From the classroom to the world: Local seniors turn tassels

Students in three of the four public high schools donned robes and caps Friday and Sunday for commencement ceremonies. More than 100 students are expected to graduate from county schools in the coming weeks.

The graduation festivities started at Suttons Bay Friday as students, faculty and parents packed into the auditorium. Twenty-two Norsemen graduates entered a new phase. Suttons Bay valedictorian Megan U'Ren and salutatorian Gavin Schichtel gave the class address.

Glen Lake graduated its class Sunday, with the Lakers represented by valedictorian Darien Bootz and salutatorian Liam McCaw.

Leland sent its students to the Manitou Passage of life after graduating 33 Comets Sunday at 4 p.m., with co-valedictorians Lorna Wiesen and Eliza Aldridge representing the class.

Lake Leelanau St. Mary graduated 12 students Sunday from St. Mary Church, with valedictorian Garrick Collin and salutatorian Cody Couturier giving remarks.

Northport will graduate seven students — five girls and two boys — on Friday, June 6, from 4 to 5 p.m. Valedictorian Desiree Wetherbee and salutatorian Cora Speer will speak at graduation.

The Leelanau School in Glen Arbor will celebrate graduation Saturday, June 7, closing out the season's festivities.
