Those interested in the status of public access to the Lake Michigan shoreline from the end of Reynolds Street in Leland are encouraged to attend a meeting on the issue Monday, June 7, at 7 p.m. in the Leland Public School gymnasium. The meeting was organized by the Leelanau County Road Commission and will be conducted jointly with members of the Leland Township Board. *** Leland graduate Jim Schaberg is no couch potato — he grew up walking the beaches of Leelanau and hasn’t let up — so his finding a junk television set below the Lake Michigan overlook off Pierce Stocking Drive carries a bit of irony. Or maybe his arrival on the Friday leading up to Memorial Day weekend was destined.
